It sent me to searching Google to find out more about the Opium Wars, of which I knew next to nothing, before reading Ms. Perry's latest book. I downloaded the book on Tuesday and couldn't put it down until I finished it at 5:30 AM on Friday morning...short naps, on the sofa, kept me able to function during the day! Ms. Perry's ability to describe a scene both poetically (standing by the Thames on an early winter day with the sun just coming up and the color, odor, and speed of the moving waves is beautifully written) and the clinical description of murdered characters makes one able to see in one's mind the condition of the body. Ms. Perry always has me on the lookout for her newest releases!
